Prayer for Malaysia

I am ashamed to admit that I have been neglecting Malaysia, that I haven't been as fervent in praying for my nation as I ought to be...and now that this nation is on the verge of chaos and disorder all because the people long for free and fair elections, and is starting to resemble a police state more than a democratic nation [is this ever possible? Having travelled to East Malaysia in the past few days, I'm starting to think that the inequalities between Selangor/KL vs the rest of Malaysia are just too vast for it to work out], it is becoming increasingly clear that no one can help Malaysia but God.

Over the weekend, I was privileged to hear this young boy share about the visions that God has placed upon his heart for Malaysia, and it reminded me of many other visions that I used to hold before me but have let slip away because I was consumed by other more selfish pursuits. The contents of these visions are as impossible and audacious as it gets, but they all align with the ultimate vision that God has for the ENTIRE world. And even though I can't imagine how the fulfillment of these visions will be like, I know that when it does happen, it will be glorious, and will speak of God's greatness and power and faithfulness and sovereignty.

Today I will be praying parts of Psalm 72 over my nation and my leaders. I fully believe that the hearts of kings are like a stream of water in the hands of God, and He directs them wherever He pleases (Proverbs 21:1) and I just pray that whomever God allows to come into power in Malaysia will be a leader that desires to have God's heart and His sense of justice above all.

Psalm 72

1 Give your love of justice to the king, O God,
and righteousness to the king's son.
2 Help him judge your people in the right way;
let the poor always be treated fairly.
3 May the mountains yield prosperity for all,
and may the hills be fruitful.
4 Help him to defend the poor,
to rescue the children of the needy,
and to crush their oppressors.
5 May they fear you as long as the sun shines,
as long as the moon remains in the sky.
Yes, forever!

6 May the king's rule be refreshing like
spring rain on freshly cut grass,
like the showers that water the earth.
7 May all the godly flourish during his reign.
May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more.

12 He will rescue the poor when they cry to him;
he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.
13 He feels pity for the weak and the needy,
and he will rescue them.
14 He will redeem them from oppression and violence,
for their lives are precious to him.
