In the Spirit of "Art for Art's Sake"

"I write a lot of juvenile yarns. I like doing it better if I didn't have to lug a moral into most of them. They won't sell without it. The kind of juvenile story I like to write - and read too, for the matter of that - is a rattling good jolly one - "art for art's sake" - or rather "fun for fun's sake" - with no insidious moral hidden away in it like a spoonful of jam. But the editors who cater to the "young person" take themselves too seriously for that and so in the moral must go."

- Lucy Maud Montgomery, taken from this GORGEOUS book, "The Annotated Anne of Green Gables" that I am now lusting after.
